OPP Assisting With Multiple Wildfires in North West Region
Wildfire evacuations continue across Northwestern Ontario as the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assist the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) in protecting communities threatened by active forest fires. Residents in areas under mandatory evacuation orders are being urged to leave immediately and avoid affected zones as wildfire conditions remain unpredictable. Officials continue to monitor several communities while emergency response teams support evacuations, enforce road closures, and help keep residents safe. As of July 20, 2026, Highway 599 has reopened between Highway 516 and Mishkeegogamang First Nation after several days of wildfire-related closures. However, authorities warn that changing fire conditions could lead to additional closures with little notice. Highway 527 at Gull Bay First Nation remains closed, except for some local evacuation traffic.
