Ford Vows No Limits in Wildfire Fight as Ontario Fires Continue to Grow
Ontario Wildfire Update: Premier Doug Ford and provincial officials provide the latest update on the growing wildfire emergency in Northern Ontario. Fires have expanded to approximately 735,000 hectares, with 190 active wildland fires across the province and dozens still not under control. More than 1,800 people have been evacuated from fire-threatened communities, with residents being relocated to host communities including Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Barrie, Toronto and Niagara Falls. Provincial officials say 13 communities have been evacuated, while additional communities remain under close watch.During the briefing, Ford outlined Ontario's firefighting efforts, including the deployment of 155 fire crews, roughly 80 water bombers and helicopters, and additional aircraft on standby. The province says it has invested heavily in wildfire response, equipment and staffing while supporting evacuees with lodging, food, hygiene kits, medical supplies and air quality resources.
